For several years, the Rahway Police Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Jersey Division, has taken part in Operation Take Back.
During Operation Take Back events, citizens have the opportunity to dispose of their unused, unwanted or expired medications.
In addition to the Operation Take Back events, citizens also have the opportunity to drop off medications in the City’s secure prescription drop box which is located inside the Rahway Police Department lobby at 1 City Hall Plaza.
This location is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This drop box provides citizens with the opportunity to rid their homes of those medications by turning them into law enforcement officials without the need to wait for an Operation Take Back event. Those officials will in turn dispose of the medications in a safe, non-hazardous manner, preventing these pills from falling into the hands of our children or drug traffickers.
Whether at an Operation Take Back event or the 24 hour drop box, the process is anonymous; therefore, all efforts will be made to protect the anonymity of individuals disposing of medications. No questions or requests for identifications will be made.
Medications being disposed of in its original container should have the prescription label removed if it contains any personal identifying information. Liquid products, such as cough medicine, should remain sealed in their original container, ensuring that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage. Syringes or any other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
