Administration

Under the City of Rahway’s form of government, all executive and administrative authority is vested in the office of the Mayor who appoints the Business Administrator and department directors. The Business Administrator is responsible for development of the Mayor’s annual budget, the administration of the city’s personnel system and the supervision of the management of the city’s departments. This form of government gives citizens a centralized line of authority for the efficient management of the city’s business.

Code Enforcement includes the Division of Building and Property Maintenance.

Engineering & Land Use

The Department of Engineering and Land Use is responsible for administration and enforcement of all issues related to engineering, zoning, land use, economic development and community development.

Fire Prevention Bureau

The Fire Prevention Bureau is charged with inspecting all premises, except owner-occupied detached one and two-family structures used exclusively for dwelling purposes. The buildings are brought into compliance with N.J. Uniform Fire Code. These regulations are used to ensure that new and existing buildings are maintained in a fire-safe condition.

Municipal Clerk

The City Clerk is charged with the maintenance of all public records, including agendas, minutes, resolutions and ordinances of the Municipal Council. The City Clerk is also responsible for issuing various licenses and permits.

Rahway’s individual coin-operated parking meters for on-street parking are being replaced by 29 modern pay stations located downtown.

Public Works

This Division of the Public Works Department is primarily responsible for maintaining Municipal Buildings, streets, sewers, fleet service, City tree’s, park and landscaping, snow plowing, leaf collection, and emergency response.
